The Dream, the Detour, and the Discovery
At the beginning of this year, I made a bold decision and created 5 big goals, one of which was to find my dream home.
A place by the sea.
A place that energises me.
A lifestyle designed with intention.
To do this, I let go of my beautiful home in Rome and set out on a nomadic adventure. Something many dream of — and few actually follow through on.
I thought it would be freeing.
Instead, it became frustrating. Overwhelming. A logistical minefield.
When everything is possible, nothing feels grounded.
Questions that kept nagging in my head:
-
Why does “freedom” feel like another full-time job?
-
Is this really the lifestyle I want?
And amidst all the chaos of choice — my work never stopped.
I flew to workshops. I coached clients. I stood on stages and shared ideas I believe in. But the noise of the nagging questions dulled my focus.
That’s when the deeper truth surfaced:
The dream was never to be a nomad.
The dream was to build a life that energises me.
I didn’t burn out. But I did burn through my patience.
And that clarity — the kind that only comes from discomfort — made space for something new.
So, I returned home to the UK for a birthday break and Easter treat.
Back to my roots for two wonderful weeks with a grounded, calm focus that had me firing on all cylinders.
A day later I landed in Malta at the amazing EU Start Up Summit.
Malta surprised me. The place, the pace, the people — they all aligned. It just felt right.
English-speaking. Italian energy. Entrepreneurial community.
Sun. Sea. Space.
I’ve realised it’s not endless freedom that fuels my sense of adventure or sparks my joy — it’s purposeful travel, in service of something greater: building a life that feels like home, surrounded by inspiring people, anchored in meaningful work.
The sea views and friendships? They’re the icing.
But without a beautiful base, I felt untethered.
The nomadic life isn’t for me.
My real adventure is my business — and that’s what brings everything home.
So no, the search isn’t over.
Maybe Malta, maybe not.
But I now know what matters most.
Here’s the lesson I’m walking away with:
Don’t romanticise the route. Stay loyal to the dream.
If something isn’t working, it’s okay to say so.
You don’t have to change the vision — just the path.
Test fast.
Learn fast.
Adjust boldly.
Because even if the journey feels messy, the wins are still worth celebrating.
And if you’re in a moment of re-evaluating your next step — know this:
You’re allowed to shift gears.
You’re allowed to try again.
You’re allowed to choose what energises you.
Here’s to building a life that feels as good as it looks.
And knowing when it’s time to leave, so you can finally arrive.
